Summary: Empahsis on the word "Conversations"
Racism (nor any other "ism") does not just disappear because we "move on." These many prejudices occur in the lives of human beings each day. Every time I think I can move on, something occurs that lets me know that the person on the other side of the "ism" has not moved on. So I don't move on, I just move along with my life. There must be conversations about issues for there to be understanding. While wisdom is indeed the principal thing, we must get understanding. Sometimes it's very uncomfortable to talk about these things, but our discomfort doesn't make the issues go away. There is no magic wand, no silver bullet to "fix" human prejudices. We can only attempt to modify behavior; individuals change their own attitudes. Dr. Tatum conveys to us in the title that these are "conversations" not statistics. I found the reporting of quality qualitative research to be quite credible and will use this text for my course for school administrators. Got us thinking, didn't it?

   Summary: A MUST HAVE!
This is a must have book even for the avid "anti-racist". It is excellent in understanding the psychology of racial identity. Not just black or white, but native american, latino, asian, bi-racial, etc.

If you're looking for a more clinical, statistical book, this isn't it.

If you're looking for an understanding of why we are how we are, this is it.

   Summary: Racial Identity
This book was a great addition to understanding race and racial identitiy from a psychological perspective.

   Summary: Psychobabblegobbledygook garbage
This book is trash!!! Dr. Tatum is an embarassment to Spelman College. For a REAL book on race relations read Jared Taylor's" "Paved with Good Intentions." For some reason Dr. Tatum hates white people and writes how she browbeats white people into believing that whites have an unfair advantage over blacks.

   Summary: Interesting, but not convincing
I found this book to bring up some potentially interesting points, but it failed overall by overlooking other major counter-arguments. It is certainly controversial and will evoke strong opinions either way. I happened to be on the annoyed side.
