Professional Review:

Revised in 2006 for its twenty-fifth anniversary, this best-selling book is the "bible" for families caring for people with Alzheimer disease, offering comfort and support to millions worldwide. In addition to the practical and compassionate guidance that have made The 36-Hour Day invaluable to caregivers, the fourth edition is the only edition currently available that includes new information on medical research and the delivery of care.

The new edition includes:

-new information on diagnostic evaluation-resources for families and adult children who care for people with dementia-updated legal and financial information-the latest information on nursing homes and other communal living arrangements-new information on research, medications, and the biological causes and effects of dementia

Also available in a large print edition

   Summary: Lightweight...
Very superficial and general information. I've read a lot on this subject since my mom's diagnosis a couple of months ago and I'm frankly puzzled as to why this book is recommended so frequently.

The Alzheimer Assn's website provides more thorough information. It's extremely well written and easy to understand. And free.

   Summary: 36 Hour Day
This is a must read by all! Whether you have a family member with Dementia or you are curious about this topic.

   Summary: dementia
An excellent book for learning. Some I knew and some I became aware of for the first time. I bought two more books for my children.

 Rating 5   Written on June 3, 2008
   Summary: A MUST HAVE
This is known as the caregiver's "bible" for a good reason. If you have a loved-one with any kind of dementia, you really should pick up this book...it's timeless and so helpful.

 Rating 5   Written on May 24, 2008
Summary: Excelllent text for first-hand experience
A good friend recommended the book and she knew what she was talking about. As a young baby-boomer, both my parents are showing signs of dementia and I'm relieved and informed by the comments shared in the text. Things are going much easier now that my whole family is better prepared to handle the impact of this disease. I sent a copy to both my sister and brother in Ohio because they too have aging inlaws that may eventually exhibit periods of dementia and may find a sense of comfort from the knowledge.
