It's more than a book. It's a way of life.

   Summary: God
The stories are interesting but unless you totally believe in God I'm not sure you will "get" this completely.

Summary: Still trying to get my brains out of hock
I got sober in AA over 9 years ago and have read this book countless times over the years. For those of you who like it, read it again. Read it over and over again, and study it in detail, like I have. Pay attention to the places where it says one something that seems open-minded and accepting of differences, such as: "here are the steps we took, which are suggested as a program of recovery". Then note how it also says things that seem vaguely threatening, like: "One poor chap committed suicide in my home. He could not, or would not, see our way of life...Faith has to work twenty-four hours a day through us, or we perish." Consider the possibility that the book is full of inconsistencies like this, and that the program of Alcoholics Anonymous, as outlined in this book, makes very little sense.

Then, if you need to see what the results of reading this book are in practice, go to AA meetings for a year or two. Don't hang out there as long as I did; just long enough to see what goes on. Notice the folks wearing the mantle of Longtimer (20+ years). Listen to them speak and consider how heartfelt their words must be if they repeat them verbatim at meeting after meeting. Pay attention to what goes on in their real lives--the lives they lead outside the "rooms". Do you see them going off with newcomers to have affairs? Do you hear them suggesting that people stop taking their prescribed medications? Do you notice that some of them are actually not sober at all? If you hang around a while, you will. You will see.

Indeed I got sober while going to AA meetings. Somehow I managed to get enough good out of it to make a beginning in sobriety. But the program itself is fill of insanity: complete, absolute, unmitigated sickness. And this book is the start of it all. Those with further questions are encouraged to investigate the history of AA including the manner in which this book was written, and where the royalties from its sale ended up (hint: Bill W's mistress got a good chunk).

   Summary: books pertaining to Alcholism
Purchased two books about alcholism from Amazon and I was very very pleased with the tranaction. Both arrived in very good condition, better than I had expected, and arrived in record time.
I highly recommend these dealers.
Thanks so much,

   Summary: poor service, excellent book
I wanted this book on CD for a friend that needed it. After a month, I am still waiting for a refund after being charged the full price, receiving one of the four CD's, then being told it would take two weeks to receive the rest, then finally being told the entire book on CD was no longer available.    Summary: EVERYONE should read this book!!
I had borrowed a copy of this book to read from a local AA group. I got so much from the text, not only as an alcoholic, but as a human being. I think everyone should read this book. I bought two copies: one to keep as a reference and one to pass around. It looks like I'll have to order a few more because both of my copies are out!
