Summary: There always are differences between theory and reality As I write this, Mr. Obama is, now, President-elect Obama. I have listened to some of his speeches and read many of his written words. The man is a very good speaker and a good writer. However, I tend to believe in actions more than in words. I wonder if his actions will be true to his words. My own political beliefs are different from President-elect Obama's. I hope I have not let that harm my judgement of the value of this book in determining what the man actually believes and will do. We have yet to see what sort of President our country has elected. I worry because Mr. Obama; the citizen, the state legislator, and the US Senator; did not always act when he had the chance and never showed any willingness to embrace conservative notions such as limits on government, limits on governmental spending and limits on taxes. He has been an observer and he has, apparently, mostly admired leftist and socialist political thought. So, will he be as moderate as this book claims? During the campaign, there were a few instances where Senator McCain chose to be more active in some issues where Senator Obama was less active. But, while claiming to be moderate, most of his actions were those of a left wing liberal. I find that I hope that President Obama will understand the diplomatic issues, the military issues, the economic issues, and all the other issues that a President must address as an active leader of our country. I hope that he believes as strongly as I do in democracy, freedom, individualism, and liberty. And, I hope he will be true to those principles. However, this book does not convince me that he will act as he has claimed he believes. This book is written well enough. However, I see so many areas where President Obama may not act well enough that I worry. I worry that he has not written the truth of his beliefs and aspirations. Thus, I must also rate this book with low grades, because there is little here that convinces me that this is the person we need as President. I suppose that I must wait for his actions. Summary: President Obama The book accomplished what I wanted. It gave me an insight into his values and perhaps what we can expect from him as our President. Summary: Great man, great read! This book offers wonderful insight into the beliefs and thinking of President-elect Obama. Written beautifully, and it reads with ease. Very inspiring. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to know more about this great man. Summary: Simply Brilliant! The title says it all! Barack Obama reveals his policy ideas for the nation and the sub-text makes it readily evident why he was elected president of the United States. In typical Obama fashion, his ideas are well-considered and thoughtfully crafted. Given the historical nature of his presidency, this would make an excellent gift for anyone who does not own it. I've given several. Summary: Presidential An Enlightening insight into our new president. Agree or disagree, the throngs who claimed during his campaign that he offed no specifics simply needed to crack a book. Showcasing his unusual ability to fairly and accurately include other opinions in defining his own, Obama's comprehention of contrary philosophies shines forth in a distinguished and diplomatic prose. Well grounded in common sense, candor and hard work, Mr. Obama brings us into his world and his thought processes. One comes away with the distict feeling that even if you don't agree with the author's conclusion, you can trust his reasonable and measured approach to problem solving to rule the day. I find it a rare privilege to have such a window to a newly elected president. No other sitting president duing my adult life had ever authored a book. Obama not only wrote this alone, he gave us his very policies, in advance. The availability of such a text should not be taken lightly. |
