Professional Review:
From the author of the smash hits Something Borrowed and Something Blue comes a novel that explores the question: is there ever a deal-breaker when it comes to true love?
First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes . . . a baby carriage? Isn’t that what all women want?
Not so for Claudia Parr. And just as she gives up on finding a man who feels the same way, she meets warm, wonderful Ben. Things seem too good to be true when they fall in love and agree to buck tradition with a satisfying, child-free marriage. Then the unexpected occurs: one of them has a change of heart. One of them wants children after all.
This is the witty, heartfelt story about what happens to the perfect couple when they suddenly want different things. It’s about feeling that your life is set and then realizing that nothing is as you thought it was---and that there is no possible compromise. It’s about deciding what is most important in life, and taking chances to get it. But most of all, it’s about the things we will do---and won’t do---for love.

   Summary: Does Love Conquer All
This is the first book that I read by Emily Giffin and I enjoyed her smooth and fun style. The main character of the book is Claudia who when she got married she had agreed with her husband that they wanted no children. Then her husband decided that he wanted children and Claudia was adamant that she did not want to be a mother and there started the downfall of her marriage. The book was basically about relationships and the author portrayed the relationships of Claudia's parents, sisters and friends. It was basically a written soap opera. The author did a great job entwining the different scenarios and was enjoyable to read. The only downfall is the ending was somewhat predictable.

   Summary: Predictable, yet good
The major storyline of this book was a tad predictable. As the story, played out, I could sense where it was leading to, which was somewhat disappointing. However, the more minor storylines, especially the main characters relationship with her family and her best friend, were less predictable and incredibly interesting. I enjoyed reading this book and I definitely felt like I could relate to the main character's emotions and soul searching.

   Summary: A good story
This story got off a little slow, but I found myself wanting to spend time with the characters after I got to know them a little better. Probably because I had my first and only child at 35, this book sucked me in until I finished it in a matter of 3 days.

   Summary: great book!
this is a fantastic story, another winner by emily giffin. the story is very layered, with a bunch of side plots involving the main character's sisters and her best friend. each provides a very different aspect on marriage and the baby issue and all of them are really well constructed. this is the most complex of emily giffin's books but, i believe, maybe the most rewarding. the o. henry ending is fantastic.

   Summary: Somewhat disappointing.
While I had high hopes for my first Emily Giffin read, I was left disappointed. I just didn't care for the main character, Claudia. It took me a while to put my finger on it, but she had an arrogance that made her unlikeable. I liked the fact that Giffin was tackling the subject of choosing to remain childless; however, Baby Proof ultimately seemed to sell out and challenge the idea that one can be childless and happy.

The bulk (300 pages or so) of the novel centers around Claudia, her sisters', and her friend's relationship difficulties, yet Giffin tries to shove tidy, happy endings for all of the characters into the last twenty pages or so. The abrupt ending actually made it feel forced and unrealistic.

I am not giving up on Giffin's books based on this one so-so read. Despite the main character's likability issues and the flimsy ending, I found her writing style to be witty and engaging, and I'll give her books another try.
