 Written on January 7, 2006 Summary: Very cute addition to our little dancer's room Both my 3 year old and nearly 2 year old daughters LOVE this video. Neither can really follow the steps yet but they try. It keeps their attention for nearly the entire 30 minutes!!! I just wish they would make some companion dvd for the bar that comes with it. For me this is great for a kid 3-6 years, 8 years would probably find it a little easy. Written on January 5, 2006 Summary: It's not as good as bella cinderella. The filming is cheesy, the hostess is excitable, but my 2 year old daughter likes it anyway. 'Santa Claus' brought this for her for Christmas and I thought it was good until I opened 'Bella Cinderella' which I highly recommend over this program. The first 10 minutes, Bella spends teaching the kids about the history of the dance and lets them know that it's okay if you don't get it right, because the only way we learn to do anything is by practicing, which I think is GREAT!!! As for the dances, they are easy enough for a young child to follow, and a cute way to learn if your little girl is interested in pursuing ballet as an art. I would have rated this higher if the filming and "special effects" were a lot better. If you are buying this to test your daughters interest in ballet, then get this. If you're just looking to buy something cute and fun for her, buy the Cinderella version instead. It's a better buy overall. Written on January 5, 2006 Summary: Great for Young Girls I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old for Christmas and she ADORES it. She has played with it every night and I constantly hear her singing "bella bella bella dancerella" in her car seat. I recommend 100% for entertainment value. Now if you want your 2 year old to learn the ballet basics reliving your lifelong wish to be a prima ballerina - you should probably just realize that she is only 2 and sit back and watch your child have FUN.  Written on January 3, 2006 Summary: Fun for 2.5 year old but questionable for Mom. Even though this item was rated for ages 3-8, my 2.5 year old daughter seems to love it. The quality of the DVD was good, meaning it was clear and the sound was good. The music was not ballet music but my daughter didn't seem to mind. The mat and bar were okay and as durable as I expected (...). My concern for this toy is that it does not seem to appeal to all audiences(races). My daughter is only 2.5 and all she sees is pretty pink tutu's. Her brothers ages 10 and 11 asked me, "Why is the African American girl not in the Ballet dance?" It concerned me that the African American child(Ianthe) in the video was not a ballerina dressed in a tutu and did not participate in either the Ballet Dance Steps 1-4 or the Swan Dance. I am not sure why she was in the video since she did not participate in the ballet dances. She did participate in the nutritional fruit and veggies dance, however she was told what fruit she would be(a banana), where the Caucasion and Asian girls were allowed to choose their fruit. I am concerned what message this may send to little girls of color. Was the African American girl not good enough to do the ballet? Why was she made to sit on the sidelines and act as though she could not dance? I don't want little girls of color to think they have to sit on the sidelines for anything. The creater of this toy apparently does not know that little girls of color dream of being a ballerina too. I, for one do not look to the world to educate my children through toys. I think it would be politically correct to allow little Ianthe to wear a tutu and dance in at least one of the ballet dances since she was in the video and introduced as a Ballerina. This review is to inform and enlighten all parents that toys too can stereotype and create negative ideasin our children. I would not recommend this toy if you are a parent who is concerned about your childs phychological health.  Written on December 30, 2005 Summary: From a Happy Customer I bought this for my six year old for Christmas (2005). It has only been a couple of days, but she loves it! She is just now getting into dance and is pretty serious about it. She watches the video closely and follows the instruction to the T. I like the warm-up and the instruction. I think it is a great toy for the price (I paid $19.99). It is especailly nice if the child has never taken ballet and just needs the basics. Once they learn the five steps they can can prance around doing their own ballet routines to any music. Great buy! |
