Professional Review:
Where does a story truly begin? In life, there are seldom clear-cut beginnings, those moments when we can, in looking back, say that everything started. I'm not sure why I feel compelled to tell my story in the first place. What can be achieved by unearthing the past? But I know I must try to tell it, if for no other reason than to finally put this all behind me. This is, above all, a love story, and like so many love stories, it is rooted in tragedy. At the same time, it is also a story of forgiveness. And it is my story as well. I, too, played a role in all that happened -From A BEND IN THE ROAD Miles Ryan's life seemed to end the day his wife was killed in a hit-and-run accident two years ago. As deputy sheriff of New Bern, North Carolina, he not only grieves for her and worries about their young son Jonah but longs to bring the unknown driver to justice. Then Miles meets Sarah Andrews, Jonah's second-grade teacher. A young woman recovering from a difficult divorce, Sarah moved to New Bern hoping to start over. Tentatively, Miles and Sarah reach out to each other....soon they are falling in love. But what neither realizes is that they are also bound together by a shocking secret, one that will force them to reexamine everything they believe inincluding their love.

Summary: I really wanted to love this book......
Okay, so I fell in love with the characters in this book immediately. I cared for them and was interested to see what would happen as the story progressed. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the writing about halfway through. I just did not dig this book....just not enough punch, I guess. I have loved other stories by this author and will try another.

   Summary: A great beach read
I just finished this book in two days while lying on the beach. I had no idea what it was about- I just picked it up on the best sellers at Books-A-Million (just wanting a book for the beach). I love Nicholas Sparks so I new it had to be good and I was not dissappoited with this book either. If you want a great read with a few twist then this is a great book to read. It will keep you reading and wanting to know more.

   Summary: I'm hooked!
As an early childhood teacher I don't really read many "grown up" books. Once in a blue moon I have the time and come across a book that really grabs my attention. This happened with this book. I had seen the movie "The Notebook" and when I found "The Wedding" at my sister's house I couldn't put it down. I finished it in just a few days (a really big deal for me). The day I was done I bought "A Bend in the Road." As much as I love Allie and Noah from the other books, this one was my favorite. It takes hold of your heart right from the beginning. This is one of those that you don't want to end. I think the fact that Sparks' stories are set in NC is one of the big draws for me, being from the south myself I'm naturally a hopeless romantic. I finished "Message in a Bottle" this morning and I've started on "True Believer". I guess this makes me an avid reader, well almost. The point being, if you love a love story and a good cry mixed with tons of other emotions....this is a book you'll want to read. Sparks certainly knows how to draw in readers with his vivid details and breathtaking descriptions! It's easy to identify with his characters because at some point we've all been in love and most of us have been burned by our feeling in some way. This story is just a FEEL GOOD love story even though it has a somewhat sad backdrop.

Summary: A Bend in the Road
This was my favorite book. I have read all books written by Nicholas sparks. The mixture of tragedy and romance was perfectly balanced. I love the way that all of his books teach a life lisson. This teaches to not take anything for granted. At any moment you can lose something that is close to you. Also taeches that while driving, eventhough you may think you are aware of everything that is going on there still can be more that is not visable to the eye. and it may jump out at any moment just as the dog did. Also you must never run away, you must face that reality of life. If you don't face up to your realityyour life may be chamged for the worse just as Brians was.

   Summary: An Excellent Book
A Bend in the Road is written by New York Times Bestselling author, Nicholas Sparks. Sparks is famous for writing novels that tug at the readers' heartstrings and A Bend in the Road is no exception. I have read all the Nicholas Sparks books, but this one is definitely one of my favorites.

This novel is the story of a man, Miles, who has recently lost the love of his life, Missy, in a hit-and-run accident. Determined to find out who killed her, Miles distances himself and his son, Jonah, from the active life in their small town of New Bern, North Carolina where Miles is a sheriff. Two years go by and the nightmares of a tragic death still haunt him and Jonah. Then Sarah Andrews comes into the picture. Miles begins to leave his tragic past behind him and starts living the present again.

The book starts off with a helpful anonymous narration that appears every couple of chapters. The narration helps you learn more about Miles' past and about Missy's accident. At the peak of Miles' and Sarah's relationship, more news about Missy comes up and "the thick, manila file is reopened". Miles' obsession about finding out who killed Missy starts up again and unintentionally pushes Sarah away from him despite her best efforts.

A Bend in the Road was an easy, enjoyable read that is perfect for the summer. Once you start this book you won't want to put it down. Nicholas Sparks combines love, loss, tragedy, and suspense perfectly in one book. This novel is sure to get an "Awww," out of you.
