 Written on July 23, 2008 Summary: Betty Crocker Cook Book It was a birthday gift for my 20 year old college student granddaughter. She loves this book. Written on June 7, 2008 Summary: Good for beginners & busy people My daughter's bound edition of this book was one of her favorites, but it was falling apart from use. I replaced it with this ring-bound version. She is very pleased. It lays flat for use. This is a good, basic, no-frills approach to beginning and intermediate cooking skills. Other reviews have complained about the use of prepared mixes and/or shortcuts. The "food snobs", who have the time to do everything from scratch, do not appreciate these time-savers for working people and busy moms (my daughter, for instance, has a 3-yr-old, and twins 1-yr-old). It is far easier to get out, measure one cup of buisquik and put it back, than to get out and put away the flour, the shortening, the baking soda & the salt, and then wash several measuring devices instead of just one. It is nice for her to have a cookbook that offers many recipes for nutritious meals using these time-savers. If your cooking skills are more advanced and/or you desire more gourmet-type offerings, don't get this book. The book is nicely laid out and categorized. There is nutritional information at the bottom of each recipe. Written on May 30, 2008 Summary: must have for a novice and beyond This is a wonderful tool! It is a must have for a novice and beyond. I live in rural America and we just can't get all the cool products found in the city. This a great resource as a place to start when making up recipes, as well as giving techniques to change other recipes. Love it!! I began my marriage many years ago with a Betty Crocker Cookbook; there was no better cookbook to receive. The recipes are easy to follow and turn out great. I advise every bride to begin her marriage with a Betty Crocker Cookbook. |
