 Written on March 27, 2008 Summary: great book If your are a midwife, doula, childbirth educator, or even an OBGYN READ this book. Parents to be can also benifit from reading this book. It really makes you think about focusing and dealing with your fears and your hopes. Written on March 19, 2008 Summary: After reading, my photography improved I never considered myself an artist, but I noticed how much my pregnancy and birth photography improved after I read this book. This book helped the creativity in me to blossom. In turn, the creativity lead me to having much more fun with expressing my next pregnancy through artistic photogrpahy. No more boring belly shots. Written on March 3, 2008 Summary: Just what I needed... With my first pregnancy I bought the "What to Expect" book, but by my second pregnancy I knew what I could expect. Having a baby is more than braxton hicks, bleeding gums, swollen ankles, etc. I needed something different, something to prepare and bolster me emotionally for laboring again. I was relieved to find something different from the usual. Written on February 24, 2008 Summary: Birthing From Within review I highly recommend this book to any woman who's pregnant. It's been one of my favorites. I love this book and it's helped me a lot. Written on February 8, 2008 Summary: Informative even for moms not planning natural childbirth I read this book on the advice of my midwife when considering natural childbirth. Although I don't think that's the route I'm going to take, I definitely found this book informative and interesting. The author focuses on the experience of giving birth and the emotions that both parents experience during pregnancy and after, which is a vastly different perspective than most of the pregnancy books (which focus on "if ___ happens, tell your health care provider immediately/next visit"). I confess, I found parts of the book a little new-agey (for lack of a better word) for my tastes (such as the reference to a placenta-tree). However, it really contains a lot of information about the risks of using drugs or other medical interventions, which as important as it is for parents to know those risks while making these decisions, the more "medically-minded" books tend to gloss over them. Another reason I appreciate the book is that it does not gloss over the challenge of natural childbirth. |
