Written on May 26, 2008 Summary: Expect the unexpected Honestly, I despise this book. I hate it even more than I hated, if this is even possible, _What to Expect When You're Expecting_. The cheesy puns, the creepy warnings, the annoying tone, the misogynistic philosophy (Lose weight! Pleasure your husband! Go to work if you must but if you do...! Breastfeed! Pump at work! Let your whole life revolve around your baby!) But I also really love to hate this book and have had some great times doing so, as I am certain other parents have. The passages on sex are hilarious and make me believe, almost, that this book was written by aliens for aliens trying to pass as humans who have just given birth. I also find the breast-pumping at work stuff amusing. Really helpful advice, though? Not so much.  Written on May 20, 2008 Summary: Very helpful This book is great for any mom, but especially a first time mom. My son is 2 months old now and I've found so many answers to my questions in this book!  Written on May 12, 2008 Summary: Great book for budding neurotic parents... If you want to begin your adventure out as parents constantly feeling like your child is not achieving the over-generalized "milestones" in this book, then buy this book. In all honesty, while this book has some value, the negativity you are going to feel welling up because your four month old isn't doing pushups or rolling over or eating solid foods or whatever the book says is supposed to be happening isn't worth it. My advice: Enjoy your baby. Talk to your doctor if something seems very amiss. Otherwise, let your kid grow up. Chances are pretty good things will turn out OK without consulting this book.  Written on May 7, 2008 Summary: Almost too much to take in While I think this book helped us with our first kid, it was more of a reference than something you can read to prepare you.  Written on April 17, 2008 Summary: Ok- But you need to recognize the flaws This book is okay if it is not your only source of information. A lot of this info is incorrect but it is a handy tool if you have it on hand because you received it as a gift. I personally, would not waste my money on this book and would instead bookmark a few good parenting websites. |
