Summary: This book has been a HUGE help to me
I'm a nutrition book fanatic, and this is the best women's nutrition book I've ever read. I think every woman would benefit from reading it, especially those who have had problems with their cycles or infertility. I largely credit this book for helping me clear up some longstanding health issues I had that prescription drugs were not able to fix.

Be warned that the author is a devout Catholic and occasionally makes comments that reflect her morals. This may be annoying to some people, but you're doing yourself a disservice to skip the book altogether because of it.

Summary: Fertitly, Cycles, and Nutrition-- Worth Reading!
I thoroughly enjoyed Marilyn Shannon's approach to taking charge of our health through good nutrition. Her style is easy to read and conversational and backed with up-to-date information. This is my second purchase as I also read an earlier edition several years ago. Following her approach has made a difference in my own life as I have quite successfully navigated the perils of menopause--thanks to attention to good nutrition and the information that most doctors don't seem to be aware of. This is one to read and highlight and keep nearby for reference. I especially liked her 80/20 rule concerning good nutrition-- it's something most of us can live with as opposed to rigid admonitions. If you are interested in improving your own health, you will find this book helpful and interesting.

Summary: From a LEGIT nutrition professional
Don't waste your money on this book. Most of the info in the book comes from what a few (literally 3) male physicians think about nutrition and pms, and Ms. Shannon simply rewites their thoughts. She practically sells supplements in the book, most are mega doses of micronutrients which any legitimate nutrition professional will tell you to be cautious of. Mainly she never even mentions credible nutrition research organizations when telling people where to turn for info, Instead she recommends supplement sales people for advice. HELLO-taking your money and BIASED! This book does give validity to the connection between mood and nutrition-HOWEVER Credible nutrition professionals have letters behind their name and sign a code of ethics-high standards to which they will be held to- this Ms. Shannon has not agreed to not advertise erroneous information. It's not worth the ink and paper used to print it.

Summary: Natural relief for PMS & cramps
I thought this book was fantastic. I read it to help deal with PMS and menstual problems. After stopping the pill because of all the awful side effects, I was nervous about getting horrible cramps. I took Shannon's advice about vitamins and I have less menstrual pain now than when I was on the pill. My PMS is minimal! It is also helpful for making fertility more consistent and easy to chart, for people using natural birth control methods. I highly recommend the book. The references to Catholicism are not that big of a deal--I am not Catholic.

Summary: An Excellent Book --- Very Informative and Well Researched
This comprehensive book clearly explains the relationship between nutrition and fertility. The well-written, referenced chapters are easy to follow and truly are essential reading for anyone interested in learning how nutrition affects fertility. Furthermore, most of the information is not readily shared or known by many physicians, so it's not like you will learn it during a doctor's visit. If you are trying to conceive and are experiencing any difficulties, I would **highly** recommend this resource as a knowledgeable guide.

You will not encounter any "birth control mentality" in this book since the author is Catholic. However, her objectivity is clearly not sacrificed as another reviewer commented. Therefore, this book would be very helpful to both Catholics and non-Catholics alike. Another excellent resource is "The Art of Natural Family Planning" by John and Sheila Kippley. With these two books, I was able to successfully remedy some infertility problems. At age 38 after repeat early miscarriages, I am expecting! The wisdom and recommendations shared in the pages of "Fertility, Cycles & Nutrition" have played a large part in this pregnancy. Throughout the pregnancy and post-partum period, I will continue to follow Marilyn Shannon's expert nutritional recommendations.

The third edition of this book includes a wealth of information in the Appendix that is not to be missed. How I wish Marilyn could update this book on an annual basis since she is definitely very aware of the latest research and findings that affect fertility.

Hands down, this book is my top recommendation if you would like to learn how nutrition affects your fertility, if you are experiencing cycle irregularities, or if you are seeking pregnancy. This well-written, informative text will provide THE answers that you will not find elsewhere.
