| Presented in question-and-answer format, one of the most straightforward self-help books on fertility aims to help couples achieve or prevent pregnancy without using contraceptives. It advocates not the outdated rhythm method, but quick, daily examinations of cervical mucus and body temperature to ascertain when the few days of fertility occur. Winstein also covers the practical aspects of sexual abstinence during the fertile period, breastfeeding's role in fertility, returning to normal cycles after using the pill, and how ovulation occurs. Assuming normal fertility, she yet includes an explanatory, alphabetical list of infertility problems. An accurate, lovingly illustrated handbook that does much to dispel the mystery and imagined difficulty centered around birth control. Written on February 10, 2003 Summary: Your Fertility Signals After several years of being on "the pill", I was sick of the side effects. We had purchased "Your Fertility Signals" years ago, but had not read the book in it's entirety. Four months ago I read the book and shared varying parts with my husband, who was eary of seeking alternatives, however after both of us learned to participate in monitoring my fertility signals he bought in to the program! We recently completed our fourth month of pregnancy free naturally! Written on February 28, 2002 Summary: Should be in every couple's library This is the first book I read on the subject and it remains my favorite. It is sensitively written, attractively laid out, and full of illustrations. Can be read in one sitting and makes the woman's cycle easy to understand. A lot of basic information on hormones, fertility problems, and practical strategies. Also how nursing, contraceptive pills, and menopause can affect the cycle. Those who wish for more detail can go to a more comprehensive book such as "Taking Charge of Your Fertility," but "Your Fertility Signals" is a good, easily-read, basic manual. I especially liked the clear, easy-to-use charts included for tracking your cycle. Written on November 20, 2001 Summary: VERY helpful After having been on the pill for several years, my husband and I were ready to have children. We decided it would be best to give my body a chance to regulate its cycles before we jumped into trying to conceive. This book kept us pregnancy free for 4 months and on the first serious attempt to get pregnant, we conceived! I'm now 8 weeks pregnant and my husband and I have become great promoters of this book among our friends. I was also able to use the book to give myself an indication of how well my body was rebounding from being on the pill. I HIGHLY recommend this book!  Written on June 13, 2001 Summary: Just ok. Not the greatest book on the subject. I didn't find this book to be up to date. I bought it to learn more about the after effects of being on "the pill," and achieving conception; it was not beneficial. It needs more content in regards to this subject matter. As well, it sounded like the author was not certain about the subject matter and the effectiveness of the recommended procedures for conception or to avoid conception. A friend who was using the book for just the opposite reason, to avoid pregnancy recommended it to me, and she enjoyed it. I think the book sways more towards how to avoid conception than how to achieve it. Written on May 6, 2001 Summary: Much lent out This is one of my favorite books as it simply and quickly explains many processes of a woman's fertility cycle. I would not consider it a text for natural family planning, but I would consider it a great way to get to know about what is going on inside your body and how you can tell. It is information every woman should know. I have lent mine to many of my friends and they have all found it very interesting and informative and have enjoyed it all the more because it is quick and easy to read. |
