 Written on June 5, 2007 Summary: Absolutely Pointless Attempt to Cash In on the Harry Potter Frenzy There was no valid reason this book should have been written (and I use that term loosely as compiling fan discussions on web sites and message boards is not writing). There is only one reason this book was written: to make money for the writers. They were one of many who have added thier names to the growing list of people that have jumped on the Harry Potter cash cow bandwagon and offered nothing substantial to their readers. The authors have used fan theories as well as thier own theories to present to the readers of this book what they think will happen or what they want to happen. It would do a huge disservice to fans of Harry Potter for this book to raise or dampen the spirts of any readers who might mistakenly believe the authors of this book have certain knowledge of book seven's contents. Even though J.K. Rowling gave an interview to one of the Mugglenet staff I think it is very safe to say she didn't leak any secrets. Ms. Rowling has pleaded that book seven not be ruined by leaked information. If she is begging others not to leak information it is pretty silly to think she would do it herself. The bottom line is the only people in the entire world who know what will happen in the final installment of the Harry Potter series are J.K.Rowling and her publisher. Just because Mugglenet is the most popular Harry Potter fansite doesn't mean it holds any "inside" information or can hand you all the secrets you are too impatient or too excited to wait two months to get. The validity of this book would be like someone writing a book on the next album released by their favorite artist. They could include their own lyric interpretations of all the previous songs by said artist and statments from interviews the artist has done then package that up into what they think the music on their next album will be like. It's a waste of time, money and effort. Everything in this book is pure speculation and opinion and no one should confuse it with fact in any way. Don't waste your money on this book. Instead, re-read the first six Harry Potter books and make your own guesses as to how you think the series will end.  Written on May 31, 2007 Summary: Thanks Mugglenet ! Basicly I got this just for a pre Deathly Hallows Potter fix, I mean really what Potter fan worth the name doesn't have theories enough of their own. but I will say that there is somthing to reading theories that are close to your own all there in black and white, well reserched and well presented. The bottem line. Will 'What Will Happen" make the wait for the fanal chapter easier to cope with? for me no, to much speculation only leads to a stronger need for solid answers. What this book might give you is clairification to you own theories and some new angles to consider. Since Emerson and CO. are the closest the general public has to Potter experts, it will be interesting to see which theories hit the mark, get close, or go completely wide. And it's also quite a comfort for die hard Pottermaniacs to know that mugglenet will lead the way in questioning and debating long after the last word of DH is read. Plus I enjoyed the pros and cons of each situation and each of the character's options...and still leaving everything a mystery. Written on May 15, 2007 Summary: A Well Reasoned Analysis... If you're like me, you are reading these reviews in order to see whether it is worth your money/while to read this book. Also, I assume you wouldn't be researching this book if you didn't have more than a casual interest in the Harry Potter Series. If you want a book that prepares you for the upcoming release of the 7th Harry Potter Book, then I can reccomend this as an excellent read. It is well written and well organized. I don't always agree with all of their conclusions, but intelligent speculation is exactly what one is looking for in a book like this. One thing I really liked was that they didn't pursue rediculously speculative solutions to the Harry Potter Series. If I had one quibble, it is that sometimes they treat their inferences and conclusions as facts and then use them to venture into new areas. But it's nitpicking. If you don't take a stand with a book like this it just becomes a bunch of unsatisfying "could be", "might be", "in my opinion" wishy-washy mush. On the whole I think they did a very good job of seeking facts from the books and from J.K. Rowling interviews, extrapolating intelligent inferences from those facts and then drawing reasoned conclusions. You don't really expect a book like this to get all of it's predictions right. The purpose of a book like this is to add pleasure to the reading of the upcoming Deathly Hallows by allowing one to observe clues one might have otherwise overlooked and to better make reasoned analysis of the book as it unfolds. I gave this book five stars. I would normally only give it 4 stars because I think it was a very good book, but not one of the greats. But in it's niche - which is analysis of book 7 of the Harry Potter series - I doubt you can hope for anything better researched, thought through or clearly written as this. Thus the 5 stars. Good reading! |
