Summary: Leaves a lot to be desited. Registering product is a pain
I purchased Ghost 10 with the attitued that it would save me from a hard drive crash. It will do that but working with it you have to really know and understand how your computer is setup storage wise.

Synmantec does suggest that your system should have three physical hard drives installed non-raid. We will call the drives C:, D: & E: The C drive should only house the Operating system and installed programs. The D drive should be where you store your data you want to keep (i.e. Word, Excel, pictures, mp3, ect..) and the E drive is where you make your online backups to.

At a minimum you should have two physical hard drives installed. C drive for Operating system, programs and data you want to keep. D drive would be used for nothing but C drive backups and data that you would not care about loosing.

Most systems only have one hard drive. Ghost is almost worthless in this case. CDs and DVDs are valueless in this case as most systems the hard drive will usually be between 80GB to 1TB in size. If you are like most of us your drive is 80% or more full. At 4.7GB per DVD and you have about 100GB to backup? Well you do the math. Then consider it takes about 15 minutes per DVD to burn longer if you do a verify.

The other issue is Symantec's way to activate the software. First of all you can't without an internet connection. Second it does not work that well, it took 3 times to get it registered. I personally do not like having to register / activate any software unless I have a high trust for the company. Symantec and others have been sneeky in the past to invade our privicy so I try to avoid it all together.

I finally got tired of Ghost and it's short comings. I researched other products. I have finally setteled on Acronis True Image to replace Ghost it is a far superior product and is much easier to work with.

If you are considering Ghost download the trial version from Symantec and also download the trial version from Acronis. I think you will agree that Acronis True Image is the better of the two.

   Summary: No more lost data
I bought this software because I toasted a motherboard and hard drive. I now have an external drive and bought Ghost. It was simple to use and works well. I read through other reviews and was wary because there were reports of different issues. I found none of the issues reported and hope I never actually need to recover data! I would recommend this product.

Summary: How do YOU spell relief?
Anyone who has had a hard drive crash knows the grief it can bring. Twice now Ghost 10 has come to my rescue. It has worked marvelously with both RAID5 and RAID0 configurations. I wouldn't even consider continuing the RAID0 without Ghost riding side-saddle. I have had to tell it to ignore bad sectors on the disk and there have been a couple of instances when the backup failed for reasons unknown, but 97% of the time it works perfectly and it the restore has never failed in the clutch. Just make sure you back up early and often.

   Summary: Difficult
A very user unfriendly software. You should be very very experienced with software to attempt this stuff.

Summary: I have no major problems.
I have been using NG 10 for months now after purchasing and scrapping Acronis True Image Pro due to constant "corrupted archives" (God I wanted this to work, such a good interface). I set it(NG) to append to the recovery set every Friday and it works great. I made the mistake of trying to install Vista in a dual boot situation with my 2 WD Raptors in a RAID 0 environment and completely hosed my boot sector. After booting with the NG 10 disk, which takes light years (The only real issue I have had with this product), I was able to do a restore of my 70gb of data in about 10mins and after a reboot I was successfully up and running in Windows. I do not really like Norton products at all, but after trying several other disk image programs (Acronis, R-disk, Paragon) ironically enough, this is the one that works the best. I can actually recommend this Symantec product. (God I cant believe I just said that)
