 Written on July 28, 2008 Summary: Overpriced but amusing As a gay man, yes, I have a penis fascination. And having come of age in the 70s-80s, I'm familiar with the studios that provided most of these pictures. But after having my porn-nostalgia moment and looking and page-after-page of phalluses - most attached to unattractive men - I came to find this book more funny than erotic. The poses and the photographic settings of these pictures are really quaint by today's standards, or just downright scary and creepy, if you think about it. It's an amusing archive of gay porn from the 30s to the 80s. The book itself is way overpriced for what it is. The editorial content is superfluous, and sometimes inaccurate. And the mylar cover was damaged in shipping as well. Wait for this book to go on discount. My son is 45 years old and still single. I think he might be gay. That said, his big penis book is now in my room under my bed. So now my 45 year old single son is probably gay and angry. Written on July 9, 2008 Summary: A Really BIG Book Hanson, Dian, editor. "The Big Penis Book', Taschen, 2008. A Really BIG Book Amos Lassen "The Big Penis Book" is big in every sense of the word. The book itself is big, the photographs are big and what is photographed in them is very, very big. We all know that when it comes to pleasure size doesn't matter (or so I have been told). I understand that it is quality and not quantity that counts (so I have been told). Even with that said there is something about a big penis that is mesmerizing, compelling and that arouses primal urges in gay men. A big penis never seems to go out of style unlike big lapels and big hair. It is interesting to note that only two percent of the men in the world have more than eight inches yet others spend their lives looking for them. "The Big Penis Book" explores fascination with the big penis and we learn that it fascinates both sexes. The book has over 400 photographs of the larger penis and there are some rare photos included here. Most of the photos are not new having come from the 1970's when the sexual revolution freed photographers to be able to take full frontal nude male photographs. We have photos of Bob Mizer (of the AMG), David Hurles (of Old Reliable) and studios such as Colt, Falcon, Sierra Domingo, Third World and Champion. We see the iconic models along with information about the models. Even though some of the photos seem a bit repetitive, this is still a book that will amaze both the eyeballs and the hormones. It is really erotic photography very tastefully done and I am sure that Dian Hanson had a great time editing this volume I am not sure that straight women will love this book as much as gay men will. The models and the photographers seem to be all gay and not all of the men or their organs or attractive. Nevertheless, I had a great time looking and NO, the book did not make me wistful or wishful. I do just fine. |
