 Written on May 19, 2004 Summary: Breathtaking I absolutely love this Butterfly and I'm glad I bought it. I find nothing "hideous" or "bossy" in Callas' Butterfly. I'm so glad she recorded this role! Written on May 19, 2004 Summary: Callas-Basher strikes again Ignore him, he posts his nasty crap everywhere. Callas is a moving Cio Cio San and not bossy at all. Written on May 16, 2004 Summary: So beautiful! This Geisha DOES sound beautiful! And finally not only sugary naivete but Puccinian drama in all its glory. The only Butterfly equalling Callas is young Scotto. And then there's Freni. And that's it. Young Gedda is the best Pinkerton, in perfect company with Carreras (On the Freni-recording) and di Stefano. (On various recordings) Absolutely beautiful, haunting and dramatic, just as Puccini wanted it. ***** indeed! Written on May 15, 2004 Summary: Essential Butterfly This is a fabulous recording with young Callas and young Gedda in top form. Gedda sounded amazing in his earliest years, also buy his Don José on the amazing Carmen with the sublime Victoria de los Angeles in the title role. Callas sings a heart-breaking geisha and the sound is great. A Butterfly to cherish! For a more recent Butterfly, get Freni's Butterfly and/or Kabaivanska's. Happy listening! Written on May 15, 2004 Summary: Lovely Callas' voice HAD morbidezza, don't you know what the term means? And IF there is another Butterfly then it's young Scotto. And Callas sounding fake? Stop your crazy attack-spree, true operalovers are laughing at you! This recording is amazing, it's not the only Butterfly (I love Scotto&Freni for example) but it's a very good one. Be fair! |
