 Written on January 6, 2008 Summary: Try some of the other Richard Scarry's Books instead Parents who grew up with Richard Scarry's books and who are nostalgic about his wonderful characters may be somewhat disappointed with this book. Some stories are taken from the delightful Richard Scarry's busy world (which appears to be now out of print and only available used on amazon for $124). Apart from these, the other stories are in a style which is very different from the Richard Scarry's books which I grew up with. Until they come out with a reprint of Richard Scarry's Busy world, I would recommend "What do people do all day", or "Funniest storybook ever", where you can find all the familiar characters such as the cat family, lowly worm etc.  Written on November 26, 2007 Summary: still great after all these years My mother kept my copy of this book because I loved it so much when I was a child. I now have a three year old son and he chooses to read it before bedtime night after night. He loves "Pierre Bear" and all the pages in between. It's a classic and I had no idea they even sold it anymore. Definitly an heirloom-quality book. Written on November 7, 2007 Summary: As engaging to kids now as it was when I was little I remember this big, fat book with a million pictures inside as one of my very favorites as a child. Many of Scarry's amazing illustrations are "Where's Waldo"-like, with hundreds of details of, say, a mouse family visiting London. Others are larger and more simple. Some pages have stories, while others just have pictures with basic word titles. All this lends the book a wonderful sense of pacing -- busy-ness followed by calm, information followed by silliness. I recently gave this book to a 3 year old, who turned straight to the detailed pages of old fashioned trains and was immediately enraptured. His parents loved it, too. My top gift recommendation of all time, for ages 2-5 especially. Written on October 20, 2007 Summary: I LOVE this book!!!!!! My husband gets teary eyed just thinking of how much he loved this book as a child. Our daughters love it and treat it like gold. This book is a priceless birthday gift. Written on July 30, 2007 Summary: Great Children's Book I grew up reading this book. I loved it so much that I had to buy a new copy for myself. Such a great book to get a friend who is expecting. |
