 Written on May 1, 2008 Summary: RyG: You're going to hear much more I've listened to their clips online. They are a great duo but the clips don't do justice. I bought the CD/DVD and I think the bonus material alone is worth the price (and I think includes a better rendition of Stairway to heaven). Written on April 25, 2008 Summary: Simply AWESOME! WOW! You would think that there is about 3-4 more people in the background, but it just the two of them. You dont have to be a guitar afficionado to enjoy this album. Written on March 21, 2008 Summary: Ecclectic and yet a stunning album of guitar virtuosos After hearing about them in a rock station here in D.C., I took a closer look at them and decided to see what the hype was about for this duo from Mexico. To my surprise after picking up this album I found the next guitar duo to take new heights of what flamenco guitars are heading. With the speed and timbre of Armik, the charisma of Ottmar Liebert, and the duo capacity of Strunz and Farah, Rodrigo and Gabriela captures all of the essences of what classical guitars should sound like. 'Diablo Rojo (Red Devil)' is a story of a rollercoaster that is in their native land and every song in the album has a story to tell of their lives while trying to make it in the unfair and cruel world of the music business. But what mostly stood out is their version of Led Zeppelin's classic opus 'Stairway To Heaven'. Once started, Rodrigo takes the lead and mashes up the speed and yet slows the tempo to what made this epic song ageless. Accompanied by Gabriela's beat making sounds on guitar and rhythm, the song is taken to new terrains that you will even FORGET that Led Zeppelin ever made this song and that it was simply made by 2 natives from Mexico. An album like this does not deserve 5 stars. It deserves in the next 100 best albums ever made archives for those who enjoy something soft and yet hard and gut-wrenching to make one's soul be levitated by the dizzying and often mesmerizing guitar tricks that can only be produced by classical guitars without the use of electric components. |
