Written on February 2, 2005 Summary: A SCOTTISH PIPER STANDS ALONE listen to this, I got a great album. This goes great with Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits. What it is is one of mark's best songs to Coyote. Sailing to Philadelphia goes to be A great album.  Written on January 14, 2005 Summary: This is a great album, but don't buy the US version I grew to really love this album during a period living in the UK, and just looked at the Amazon reviews for it out of a sense of nostalgia. I was alarmed to find that the US version has a song, "Do America", that every reviewer seems to despise and doesn't have the thoughtful and charming "One More Matinee". Having listened to the Amazon excerpt, "Do America" is every bit as vile as other reviewers have indicated, so I would strongly suggest that if you don't have this album and wish to buy it, get the Import version instead. Some kind soul has put a link to it in a suggestion on the main page and he's right. The track substitution makes this excellent work much, much tighter and more adult, which is what makes Mark Knopfler's best solo album so very precious. Don't miss out on the full experience, if you can. Written on October 12, 2004 Summary: The Disc One song rocks! What It Is is the rocker! What It Is is known as the Scotland song. Good song! Written on October 5, 2004 Summary: Best Knopfler Solo album out there! Mark Knopfler rocks for the last time on this album. Ragpickers Dream doesnt rock at all. So if you want to totally rock old school Dire Straits get this album. For real. Get it. The tracks with James Taylor and Van Morrison are amazing. So seriously buy this album. Written on January 26, 2004 Summary: Amazing! Knopfler goes back to where he left us on Dire Straits' final album "On every street" with this blend of country, blues and some of the finest guitarwork to emerge from a fingerpicking former journalist. Sailing To Philadelphia is, by far his greatest solo-achievment so far and won't let anybody own. This is music you listen to in the car, at work, with friends or all alone. Highlights (though the entire album serves as career-highlight) include "What it is", "One More Matinee", the title track and "Silvertown Blues". This is one of those albums that will feel fresh forever, so do yourself a favour and own a piece of music-history today. |
