 Written on November 21, 2000 Summary: The Reading Roller Coaster This book is for the verbally abused person who has not already gotten off the roller coaster. I found it to have too much redundancy. Once I read the "Secret" I wanted to move on, but it went on, and on, and on. It took quite some time for the writer's to reveal the secret and get into the substance of the subject. Once it was revealed I got lost in the repetition. The subject is important, but the book could be done in the first five or six chapters. I would have enjoyed reading more case histories of how the "secret" was successful for others.  Written on September 20, 2000 Summary: The Best First Step! While physical violence against spouses always gets the headlines in the media, it is really the more pernicious, more pervasive verbal abuse which ruins relationships and destroys self-esteem in individuals. Dr. Ellis and Ms. Powers have taken on quite a challenge in the creation of this book on overcoming verbal abuse. They have succeeded in creating a book that is certainly a great first step--hopefully more--toward understanding and overcoming a destructive component in many crumbling relationships. Everyone knows at least one friend involved in this kind of relationship. Throw them a lifejacket, buy them this book! |
