Written on December 3, 2007 Summary: Think before buy This is a too expensive product. You should think how many times you may use it before you buy it. Actually, I bought it 2 months ago and used only 2 times. Maybe, it is better to buy CD/DVD reader instead of burner (writer). Written on November 22, 2007 Summary: Portable USB CD/DVD drive. Works as advertised. Bottom line, this product works exactly as advertised, no external power supply, light weight and slim. I have an "ultra portable" ThinkPad X60. The DVD only comes with the docking station. This product fills the gap so I can access CD and DVD drives when traveling without adding a lot of weight to my backpack. It consists of the drive and a special cable that plugs into two USB ports to draw the power necessary to operate, quite clever IMHO. And one of them is a pass thru so you only "lose" one port.  Written on August 30, 2007 Summary: Compact and useful I was so pleased to have a CD ROM drive again (the one built in to my computer died ages ago). This little number is great! Absolutley reliable, perfect XP compatibility, and the USB connection makes it so easy -- no extra power cords. Written on July 1, 2007 Summary: Excellent Product Recently decided to use my dvd slot on my thinkpad t60p for another hard-drive. This external slimline dual dvd writer runs off my usb port: the included power adapter is not required for newer machines. I did a lot of research, this looks like the best product out there for slimline dvd writers that can be powered of the machine itself Written on January 10, 2007 Summary: Exactly what I needed No extra AC power cord needed. My DVD player in my laptop went out and the laptop manufacturer wanted $450 for an in-case proprietary replacement. I use the DVD player a lot on the plane and unless I'm in first class, don't have power. This one runs off the USB power. It's very slim and not bulky. Just what I needed. I only have one question. Why don't they sell this thing in computer retail stores. It's a winner! |
