Professional Review:
Transforming the Difficult Child brings to life a new way of shifting intense children to a solid life of success. The Nurtured Heart Approach puts a refreshing spin on both parenting and teaching and reveals new techniques and strategies that create thoroughly positive behaviors. This is the newly updated 2008 revision.

   Summary: There's my son!!!
Outstanding book. Worked within DAYS for my 6 year old son. It is hard to keep at for me, but it's harder to see him grumpy and miserable when this system is not in place. That being said he was not a complete terror when we started. My husband is in sales and they say, "Feed your eagles, starve your turkies!" That is exactly what this book perscribes. No parental attention for "turkey" behavior, but lots of "food" (parental recognition) for eagle behavior. As an added benefit, my daughter (10) now thinks her brother is pretty great too. Interesting how siblings take a parents point of view.

Summary: Great Gift and easy to incorporate tips.....
I bought this book for my little sister. Her son is 9, overweight and was born with an arm deformity, therefore teased alot by other kids. He is tempramental is extremely hard to manage. She is very pleased with the book and there are tips that she has put into place that helps both her children. She is happy with the book and results. :)

Summary: The most helpful book ever!
I just love the message in this book, and the techniques have truly transformed my ADHD son into a wonderful, helpful, less emotional child. I can't say enough about how great the Nurtured Heart Approach is. I could see changes in my son within two days, and he was a different child after four weeks of following this approach. Buy it!

Summary: Wish I'd been raised this way.
Howard Glasser isn't really a miracle-worker, but his ideas appear magical when you start using them. He uses a behavior-modification approach that emphasizes the use of "relentless" positive attention (not vague or empty praise) to bolster the spirit of intense children. Once parents, or teachers, begin to see the change in their child's attitude sparked by their own change in attitude, they will be more likely to implement the rest of his program. It's not about ignoring or wishing away misbehavior, but about giving young people the power to choose for themselves how many privileges they want in their lives. Glasser has taught this approach in Tucson schools with remarkable success, and not just with the "problem" kids. I can vouch for this method with adult family members, friends and co-workers as well as with children. There is a good reason Glasser calls this "the nurtured heart" approach. Really, you'll wish you'd been raised this way.

   Summary: Eureka.......this works!
Eureka...Some help at last
I ordered this b/c I thought it was William Glassier (Choice Theory), not Howard Glassier. When the book came in, I was bummed, but thought what the heck, I'll read the book.

Thank god for ordering `mistakes.', our son has been `different' from the beginning of implementing Howard Glassier's Nurtured Heart Approach. `Normal" parenting techniques did not work with our son. I thought I was a failure as a Mother. Thank God for Howard Glassier's book. My son [...]. He is above average intelligence, yet we struggled with inappropriate interruptions, comments and behavior. I saw `medication' looming in his future.

Mr. Glassier's techniques are the first that we have been introduced to that have had any positive effect with our son. We are only 1 month into the process, but I see a positive change. I also visited Mr. Glassier's website `Transforming the Difficult Child' and have ordered the DVD that goes into his approach in depth.

The Nurtured Heart approach is about creating successful experiences for your child, something new to the `difficult' child. But guess what? When we started looking, we realized that most of the time our son is actually engaging in `good' behavior, yet we had gotten caught up in only acknowledging his mishaps.

Thank you Mr. Glassier for reminding me to focus on my son's successes and not his failures.
